Hello and welcome to another exciting year at Earlsfield! We are really looking forward to this year and getting to know you all. In addition to our carefully planned lessons, we have some amazing interactive lessons planned for the Autumn term to help the children gain a greater understanding of our fantastic topics. Year 5 are very lucky to have a number of fantastic specialist teachers this year including: AM Sports Coaches (PE), Madam Clarke (French) Ms Ockwell (Art) and Mr Hopcraft (Music). We value your support and encourage you to continue to work alongside your children at home. Any problems or queries, please don’t hesitate to contact us via the Year 5 mailbox.
Thank you to those parents who were able to join us for our recent Meet The Teacher. If you weren't able to join us we hope you can take the opportunity to read the slides.
Topic: Is democracy the most important legacy of the Ancient Greeks?
Year Five will be learning about modern day democracy and its origins, before exploring further legacies of the Ancient Greeks. As this is a broad topic, we will be working on it for the entire Autumn term.
We will start by looking at the process of democracy and how this is demonstrated in our country and our school. We then move on to crime and punishment and focus on how different societies deliver punishments and how the judicial system has developed.
Our coverage of the Ancient Greeks will include a look at the historical timeline, myths and legends, architecture, the Olympics and the theatre.
